Dear Families,

Second Graders enjoy a rare sunny day!

Welcome to the second grade web page and blessings on you during the rest of the school year.  We are currently studying a variety of regions including desert, polar, rainforest, coral reef, and forest.  We were able to take a field trip to the Point Defiance Aquarium and have a class on sharks.  Cool!  In April we will be hiking through the forest and checking out forest life up close.  After Spring break we will begin a 6 week study of countries around the world.  We will learn about the people, customs, food and wildlife of each country. 

In math we are currently practicing what we learned in a geometry unit including measuring area using a variety of units of measure.  We just started working with larger numbers in addition and subtraction.  We will work on place value, fractions, and introduce multiplication. The students also enjoy challenging themselves with Rocket Math and enjoy watching personal progress.

In Bible, we will continue to follow the life of Jesus. We've been hearing about His miracles and how He interacted with people.  Soon we will celebrate Holy Week and Easter.  We always look for Bible truths to apply to our own lives and ask ourselves how we can live what we learn.  We love our Jesus!

The kids stay very active and busy with our Daily 5 picks.  Every day they choose from activities to practice Writing, Working with Words, Reading to Self, Reading to Someone, and Listening to Reading.  They are becoming independent learners and are beginning to learn how to self assess personal work.  

Second grade also continues to enjoy extra activities such as Music class with Mrs. Schmidt, reading supplement time in the Learning Edge with Ms. Banta and Mrs. Gibelyou, computer lab time, and PE class in the gym.  

The 2nd grade students are excited to sing occasionaly in chapel as we will for the Parent's Pastry and Praise Wednesday, March 13th.  We will also sing the following Friday for Grandparent/VIP Day here at Concordia.

As you can see, we do not let the dust settle for too long.  The second grade class is active and interacting all the time.  Come see for yourself!  Visitors are welcome most anytime.
